Institute for Nature Study, National Museum of Nature and Science

Lovely natural park filled with towering old trees that create a calm, peaceful atmosphere. It’s a perfect place to spend an hour or two forest bathing, bird-watching, and enjoying a quiet break from the city. We made a day of it, after exploring the park, we walked about 30–40 minutes along the beautiful Meguro River to Nakameguro Station, enjoying cafés and trendy shops along the way. Highly recommend combining the park visit with this scenic riverside walk for a fun day.

Jan 12, 2026 Not bad for a lush stroll in the middle of the city. Today was a sunny day but when I came at 3:50pm it was already cooler and darker also due to lots of shade in the garden. I saw nothing but dense trees and bushes everywhere so I was really curious where all the birdwatching enthusiasts can find animals, birds and insects to photograph. It’s January so most trees were bare and grey as expected. The pond was being drained right now to support living species in it and it’d come back this March. A medium sized garden and took me 1h in total to stroll everywhere. I suppose in the

absolutely fantastic place for birdwatching and general wildlife watching in tokyo. fairly small area, but you can spend a long time at the main pond observing everything. be ready with cash (1000yen bills) to pay for your ticket, which you pay for through a machine outside the door. It is a pleasant piece of greenery in the heart of Tokyo with well indicated and easy paths among tall trees. Walk around the park took about 30 to 60 mins. Entrance is cheap but they only accept cash.

I visited this natural park on December 5th, 2025. I expected red and yellow fall colors. Not so much. I saw dispersed momiji trees. Anyway, I still liked it here. I couldn't believe that this park was located in the center of Tokyo. This park looked like an ancient forest. There were a few ponds where birds were resting. It is a miracle for Tokyo to have such beautiful nature. It is good for people to visit the park in summer because of the cooler temperature.
