Texas Capitol

The Texas State Capitol is an iconic landmark you cannot miss when visiting Austin. Built with sunset red granite, this historic building is even taller than the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. We joined the free guided tour, our tour guide shared plenty of fascinating Texas history and fun facts. Inside, the rotunda dome, portraits of governors, Senate and House chambers are absolutely stunning. Entry is completely free, no reservation required. Beautiful and impressive place to visit in Austin. The architecture is stunning, both inside and outside, and the building has so much history. The grounds are well maintained and great for walking around, taking pictures, or just relaxing for a bit. I also liked that you can explore a lot of the Capitol for free, and there are informative exhibits throughout the building. The atmosphere feels very peaceful and grand at the same time. Definitely a must-visit spot if you’re in Austin, even if it’s just for a quick stop.

A visit to the Texas State Capitol is well worth it. Entry is free—just check in at the Visitor Center to pick up a map, where there’s also a small gift shop. The main entrance is easy to find, though it’s a bit less straightforward if you come from the back. After a quick security check, you can join one of the free guided tours offered throughout the day or explore on your own. Our guide was engaging and shared plenty of history, even if parts felt a bit whitewashed. The tour ends at the newer extension building, where there’s another gift shop. Overall, an interesting and enjoyable visit.

We just love touring State Capitols. We are up to 42 at this time and Texas was a great visit. Highly suggest the free tours. We had Tweed provide the tour and he was great. So much information about the Capitol and the fact it’s like 300,000 ft2 of area while the new office space which is 4 floors underground provides another 600,000 ft2. Was a great tour and got to see Senate and House of Representatives rooms.

The Texas State Capitol is very beautiful and much more impressive than I expected. The building design is grand with many beautiful details, and you can feel the history as soon as you enter inside. Everything is very clean and well maintained, including the gardens and inside halls. The outside lawn also looks very nice and is a good place for walking, relaxing, and taking photos. If you are visiting Austin or interested in history, the Texas State Capitol is a must-visit place that shows the pride and spirit of Texas very well.
