Wosse 21 is a local seafood market located right by the port in Choshi, offering fresh catches, specialty soy sauces, and several dining options.
It suits seafood enthusiasts and travelers looking for an authentic market experience away from the massive crowds of Tokyo.
Arriving mid-morning is best, as stalls are fully set up by 9:30 AM even though the market opens at 9:00 AM.
💡 Carry a translation app as many vendors only use Japanese and consider dining at the upstairs restaurant for better value.

We visited Wosse 21 in Choshi and had a wonderful, authentic experience. Google Maps provided very clear directions, making it incredibly easy to access. The market opens at 9:00 AM, but when we arrived at 9:15 AM, some stalls were still setting up. I recommend arriving a little later so you can browse all the vendors once they are fully ready.
While it is a far cry from Tsukiji in terms of scale and variety, its smaller size is part of its charm. It is a lot quieter and offers a genuine glimpse into local market life. We watched local obasans doing their daily grocery shopping and interactin

My wife and I stopped by for lunch and were impressed from start to finish. Located right by the fish market, it offers that unmistakable fresh-from-the-sea experience with a casual, local vibe. We ordered the kaisen-don, loaded with buttery tuna, shrimp, salmon, anago, and ikura over perfectly seasoned rice—each bite was fresh and flavorful. The fried oysters were crisp and juicy, complemented perfectly by tartar sauce and cabbage. Service was friendly and efficient, and everything arrived quickly. Excellent seafood, fair prices, and authentic atmosphere—exactly what you hope for at a market-

I recently visited Wosse 21 and really enjoyed the experience. It’s not a very large market, but it’s packed with fresh, high-quality seafood. The fish and other seafood looked incredibly fresh — honestly, I wanted to buy almost everything!
The only challenge for me was that most shops use only Japanese, which made it a bit difficult for someone like me who can’t read the language (haha). It would be great if there were more support for international visitors.
Another thing I felt was a bit of a missed opportunity — as much as I wanted to buy the seafood, I couldn’t really do anything with it

Here is the one of the most famous local fish market around Tokyo area. The location is vey good, and is very next to the port. So you can buy fresh Tuna, other local fish and shells. What I reccomend the most is, soy sources. You can buy some local SPECIAL versions. It will take approximately 2 hours' from central part of Tokyo. As it's a bit far from Tokyo area, one star minus.

The seafood restaurant upstair (レストランうおっせ) is excellent. High quality, inexpensive and a sea view. It is in another small building right outside the seafood market. Those small restaurants inside the seafood market on ground floor are too expensive.
