On a rainy afternoon, I took refuge in the Shanghai Museum for a few hours. It offers a look into Chinese cultural heritage, making it an ideal destination if you want to learn more. With free admission to its main exhibitions, it’s definitely worthwhile stopping by.
Although many of the descriptions are in Chinese, the beauty and historical significance of the various collections can easily appreciated by all visitors - no matter the language spoken!

Really big museum with lots of interesting artifacts from different regions and eras of chinese history
As a foreigner I was able to get tickets on-site with my passport, but not sure that’s the case for all visitors. I’d recommend checking online resources before visiting as you might have to book tickets in advance
During my visit a lot of the rooms were closed, with the artifacts being moved to the nearby Shanghai History Museum or the much farther Shanghai East Museum. Unfortunately there’s not many resources online informing this, I actually found out once inside

I visited this museum on the public holiday and it’s full of people, they closed most of floors and galeries, only 4th and ground floor opened. The highlight is collection of Qipao costume which is nice. Visitor should exit behind gate that forward to the fountain, I was lucky that the fountain turn on plays musical for 15 mins
