I had an amazing experience at Yu Garden! I visited in the evening after sunset and I highly recommend doing the same. The lights make the entire place look absolutely magical. It honestly felt like stepping into another world. ✨🏮
One of the highlights of my visit was doing a traditional photoshoot there. You’ll notice many photographers holding iPads with their portfolios, making it easy to find one or simply be approached if you’re interested. It was such a fun experience and the photos turned out to be beautiful (it‘s me in the photos).

An exceptionally beautiful and well maintained place. Everything is very clean, and there is always someone taking care of the area. The different areas are also clearly explained, which makes it easy to understand their historical purpose. There are also some lovely gift shops, and you can step directly into the shopping street afterward.

Yuyuan Old Street is a beautiful blend of old and new. The historic architecture has been beautifully revived into a lively pedestrian shopping district without losing its traditional character. At night, the illuminated buildings and reflections are simply magical. From local specialties to luxury brands, there’s something for everyone. Walking here feels like stepping back into ancient China while enjoying modern Shanghai

I visited this beautiful place with my wife in Dec 2005. The winter atmosphere was magical, with traditional Chinese lanterns lighting up the historic architecture. We loved exploring the narrow alleys, shopping for unique local crafts, and tasting authentic Shanghainese snacks like pan-fried buns. It is an unforgettable cultural experience in Shanghai.

There are also plenty of local snacks, street food, restaurants, and souvenir shops to explore, so you can easily spend a few hours walking around. Both daytime and evening are charming, but the lights at night make the whole place even more p
